Are you interested in learning more about Spatial Data Science? Since this has become a really hot field to be in before you decide this is the career path for you try some short courses. Working with data and dealing with data is not everyone’s cup of tea.
Although this is a highly technical field where you need to learn at least some programming you also need to understand the systems or domain fields you are applying the analysis to.
Don’t be put off by the programming, maths or stats skills that are very much part of this field. You can still enter this field without being super technical since it is also important to figure how to integrate the data as well as what methods are suitable for the type of analysis you are trying to apply so that you can better understand the world in which we live.
Overtime you too can build up the more advanced technical skills.
For short courses check out:
- ESRI one of the big GIS Software providers also does a great job with providing different educational resources. Check out their Learning Academy
- see what is available on udemy, futurelearn and other educational platforms
For more in depth studies there are many options
- Intense 1 year post diploma courses which are great for getting the essential skills (e.g. certificates in GIS at College of Geographic Sciences in Canada for example)
- Various degree programmes at a bachelor level
- Various degree programmes at a Master’s level (1-2 years depending on whether you are interested in doing a thesis or not). Online vs f2f depending on what you can afford or whether you are interested in learning and applying what you do to your day-to-day job.
